Aggreko to power US Presidential Inauguration

15 Jan 2009

Aggreko, the global provider of temporary power and temperature control solutions, announces that it has been awarded a number of contracts which will make it the principal supplier of temporary power and temperature control equipment to support ceremonies related to the Inauguration of Barack Obama as the 44th President of the United States in Washington DC.

Aggreko will be installing some 45 megawatts of power – enough to power 450,000 homes – as well as 25 megawatts of heating, 35 miles of cable and 500 electrical distribution panels. The equipment will support broadcasting, security and VIP logistics along the Parade Route as well as the ceremonies around the Lincoln Memorial.

The award of these contracts follows Aggreko’s success as the supplier of temporary power at the Beijing Olympics, and its selection as supplier of temporary power and temperature control for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada. Aggreko was also responsible for providing temporary power for several key events during the 2008 Presidential campaign including the Democrat’s election night rally in Chicago, all three Presidential debates and the Democrat and Republican Party conventions.

Rupert Soames, Chief Executive of Aggreko, said: “We are delighted and proud to be entrusted to provide critical power and temperature control for this historic event, which it is estimated will be attended by over two million people, and watched by hundreds of millions more on television. We have worked on the last three Inaugurations and they are extremely demanding, requiring large amounts of equipment to be installed in a very short period of time.”
